Team V did just enough to secure their 1st win of the 2009/2010 season against Edinburgh International VI. Murrayfield began strongly with Alex beating John and Charlie playing fluently in overcoming Babu in three quick games, including the 2nd 11-0. But Bob’s five set loss to Manish and Alex’s to Babu left things in the balance and a sloppy performance in the doubles by Charlie and Alex (losing 16-14 in the 5th) gave EI a chance of at least a draw.
Bob had the chance to finish the match but- despite playing some fine forehands to complement his usual defensive play- lost a tight 5-setter against Babu. With the match poised at 5-4 to Murrayfield, Alex was left to play the decider against young penholder Manish Mahajan. Again the game was close with a number of entertaining rallies- but Alex held his nerve and varied his serve well to take the final set 11-9.
