Murrayfield beat Penicuik to secure the Handicap Cup title for the 2nd year in a row.

This was an extremely entertaining but tense encounter for the Murrayfield spectators.

We got off to a good start with Howard comfortably taking the first match against Brian Bailey.

Next up was Colin Dalgleish (-8) against  Gavin Hunter (+3) which was very close but looked as if Colin had the upper hand but at deuce in the 5th Gavin pulled off some amazing shots and won the match.

A similar story for Rowan Campbell next against Ian Johnstone, again going to deuce in the 5th and Ian winning. It looked like it was not going to be our night.

But Colin went on to beat Brian, and Rowan beat Gavin, and Howard beat Ian, so we were 4-2 up, only one more required and all Colin needed to do was beat Ian. This was the best match of the night with Colin having to give Ian a 12 point start playing to 19.. Colin started well winning the 1st end with relative ease, in the 2nd end he was unstoppable being 16-12 up before Ian won a point. In the 3rd and 4th ends Ian went for his shots and Colin could not maintain his concentration and made more mistakes. In the 5th end Ian pulled ahead to start and then Colin had a good run of points with many loop the loop rallys which was well received by the crowd and eventually clinched the win to a relieved team and parents.
