Several of the obits on Bill McLaren mention that his first attempts at sports broadcasting
were (whilst convalescing) commentating on table tennis for hospital radio.

One presumes that they must have been pretty slow games with  plenty of old fashioned ‘chiselers’!!

not sure a radio  commentary on Wang Hao vs Ma Long would be feasible…
